BAPTISM

Baptism is one of two sacraments that Jesus taught us to do. Baptism is a great symbol of what God is doing in our life. When we go under the water it represents Jesus' death. When we come out of the water it represents Jesus' resurrection. By participating in baptism we are signifiying that we have new life in Jesus. Westside does not offer baptism for infants. If you've given your life to Jesus your very next step is to be baptized.

baby dedication

Westside believes that children are a gift from God, and we are very excited that you are investigating child dedication.

To have your child dedicated at Westside

• We ask parents to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

• We ask parents to be sure their beliefs line up with Westside's statements of beliefs.

• We ask parents to be regular attenders of Westside's weekend services.

• We ask parents who are living together and who are not married to take steps to acknowledge and surrender to God’s plan for their relationship before participating in a child dedication service.

communion

Communion is the 2nd sacrament that Jesus taught us to do. Communion is "the believer's meal,"a sacrament intended for Jesus' followers, by which they acknowledge and remember His work on the cross—the ultimate sacrifice made on our behalf for the forgiveness of the sins of humankind. Westside extends an "open" Communion table, meaning the invitation to receive Communion during a Westside service is open to any follower of Christ.

Non-Christians should never take Communion as the Bible warns that those who take Communion in an unworthy manner will be guilty of disrespecting Jesus and bring judgment upon themselves (1 Cor. 11:27–29).

membership

We don’t peddle church membership like it’s a casual membership to a YMCA, grocery store, or country club. At Westside, we take church membership seriously and want our members to take it seriously as well. There are several things that we expect from our members at Westside:

1. You must be a Christian and have been baptized.

2. You must also attend a membership class.

3. You will be required to sign a membership covenant to serve in the church, pray for the church, give to the church, read your Bible regularly, love your brothers and sisters in Christ, respect the authority of church leaders, submit to church discipline if necessary, attend worship services, and share the gospel with others in word and deed.
